Newsletter December 2025

Message from the Chair

As we approach the end of 2025 and reflect on the year that has passed, it’s clear that this year has presented its challenges to small businesses with the ongoing cost of living pressures.

Against that backdrop however the small business community have shown they are as resilient as ever and with a few weeks to go until Christmas it is great to see Hobart a hive of activity.

In 2026, the CGHB will continue advocating on important issues while expanding networking, marketing and growth opportunities for Greater Hobart’s small businesses. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, successful 2026.

CGHB, Chair
Edwin Johnstone

Help Shape the Future of Brand Tasmania

Expression of Interest TCCI–TEB Electricity Buying Group

The approach has already proven successful for other industry groups, with participants achieving collective savings of over $100,000 through competitive tendering led by TEB.

Have your say: Help shape the future of Tasmania’s new Single Start-up Permit

The Tasmanian Government is seeking feedback on a proposed Single Start-up Permit (SSUP) aimed at new lower-risk ventures. The permit would enable new businesses to begin operating and then obtain the normal permits and approvals required within a 12-month period.

Insights gathered through the consultation process will help refine the proposed model and inform the framework of the SSUP. Submissions accepted until Friday, 16 January 2026.
