Chairman’s Report 2023

In July of this year, I took over as Chair of the Confederation of Greater Hobart Business. In that time small businesses have been facing a very challenging environment.

The problems they face range from the cost-of-living pressures, supply chain issues and skill shortages.

While it is heartening to see so many small businesses in the Greater Hobart area are doing well there are many more who are doing it tough.

All levels of Government need to work towards fostering the best business environment possible so business can flourish and proposer despite the many challenges.

The Confederation has been doing our bit to help the Greater Hobart small business environment by providing advocacy and holding regular networking events.

We have brought forward issues to Local and State Governments that have been affecting small businesses. These include the UTAS redevelopment, road closures, parking issues and traffic management issues in the CBD.

Our monthly events help the small business community with regular networking and marketing opportunities.

These events have had some great guest speakers presenting on a range of topics from Psychosocial Risk Management, Consumer Behaviour Trends, Tasmanian Startups, and Importance of Sound HR Practices.

In 2024 we will continue to raise more issues, provide networking and marketing opportunities, and promote the Greater Hobart small business community.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2024.
