Turning Start Up Ideas into Opportunity in China

This information session is for people who are thinking about getting into business, launching a product, or exploring new ways to manufacture or source goods without the traditional barriers that often stop ideas before they start.

You do not need prior experience in importing, manufacturing or international trade.

The focus is on curiosity, commercial thinking and understanding what is possible when you have access to the right information and the right people. Small business now has the opportunity to maximise the opportunity that China presents, and we are excited to welcome more people to the local small business community.

On the night, attendees will hear live from the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters and directly from manufacturers who will be available to answer real questions. Guangdong as a region has a population pushing 140 million people and has a real interest in mutual business opportunities with Tasmania.

The session will demystify how goods are produced at scale, how minimum order quantities have reduced significantly, and how businesses can save thousands by avoiding traditional brokerage models and accessing information that is often kept behind closed doors. It will also explore how direct relationships with factories can be established, reducing complexity and unnecessary layers while navigating minimal government red tape. Not to mention, the higher than average quality of products from this province.

The event will feature a live discussion with Mr Roy Wong, the representing member of the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters. Mr Wong is an experienced business consultant who has assisted SMEs and large corporations to optimise purchasing and manufacturing efficiency, support brand development and protection, and secure products within the Chinese market. He has facilitated a wide range of global transactions across multiple industries and scales, supporting efficient and commercially sound trade outcomes.

Talent Advisory will act as the Australian connector, bridging local businesses with international manufacturers and trade expertise. The session will draw on real experience, including the journey of Salty Chook Co as a practical local example. At the time, the idea for Salty Chook Co was first developed, there was no prior knowledge or understanding of importing, manufacturing, or food safety requirements. With the right guidance, direct access to manufacturers and a clear vision, the brand was launched in under four months with minimal upfront investment and now sells nationally.

The example demonstrates that you do not need to start with expertise or a fully defined industry. With curiosity, an open mind and the right support, viable pathways and outcomes can be identified.

Opportunities to engage at this level are strictly limited to 100 Australians who are keen to work with China to launch, grow or increase the profitability of their business. Opportunities like this do not come along often. Attendance in Hobart is encouraged, however for those unable to attend in person, a limited number of virtual invitations will be issued to allow participants to dial in and join the discussion live from anywhere in Australia.
