As we approach the end of 2024 and reflect on the year that has passed, it’s clear that this year has presented its challenges to small businesses with the ongoing cost of living pressures.
Against that backdrop however the small business community have shown they are as resilient as ever and with a few days to go until Christmas it is great to see the Hobart a hive of activity.
While it is heartening to see small businesses doing well there are many more who are doing it tough.
State and local governments have provided support for many small businesses this year but all levels of Government need to work towards fostering the best business environment possible so business can flourish and prosper despite the many challenges.
The Confederation has been doing our bit to help the Greater Hobart small business environment by providing advocacy and holding regular networking events.
We have brought forward issues to Local and State Governments that have been affecting small businesses. These include the parking and traffic management issues in the CBD, UTAS redevelopment and advocating for business grants.
Our monthly events help the small business community with regular networking and marketing opportunities. These events have had some great guest speakers presenting on a range of topics from:
- February: Dean Coleman on the Mac Point 2.0 Proposal
- March: Trish Goodfield on Change Management and Team Development
- April: Candidates Forum, Legislative Council Election for Hobart
- May: Eileen Eaton on ATO’s New Online Learning Platform for Small Business
- June: Anna Stover on Understanding and Maximising Your Value
- July: Mikala Grosse on How the TCCI can benefit your small business
- August: Dean Knowles on Cyber Security for Small Business
- September: Annual General Meeting 2024
- October: Fiona McCarthy on Safety is Everyone’s Business
- October: Collins Street Changes: Public Meeting
- November: Penny Stringer on Federal Government Support
In 2025 we will continue to raise more issues, provide networking and marketing opportunities, and promote the Greater Hobart small business community.
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2025.
