KPMG Report Suggests “Significant Rate Hikes” for Hobart

Published: The Mercury 20th September 2024

The Hobart City Council received an independent report in April saying their financial strategy and governance had “significant gaps” and were “not fit for purpose”.

The report stated this could lead to significant rate hikes. I believe it is time for the council to start staying in their lane (and I don’t mean bike lane).

Stop the ideology-driven pet projects that we can’t afford and stick to basic services. At a time when the council needs revenue they are removing so many on-street parking spots for bike lanes.

The justifications used for these lanes could easily be used in an episode of ABC’s Utopia.

Also the council should stop wasting time and money on issues that are out of their jurisdiction, we have plenty of state and federal politicians that can handle national and international concerns from the community.
