- An application be made to the Transport Commission requesting a change to the speed limit on Collins Street between Molle Street and Murray Street and Victoria Street between Collins Street and Harrington Street to 30km/h.
- The Council note the Engagement Summary Report provided at Attachment D to item 11 of the Open Council Agenda of 16 September 2024.
- Ongoing monitoring and evaluation be undertaken at 1 month, 3 months and 12 months intervals post-installation, and updates provided to Elected
Members via the Elected Member Bulletin. - A report be provided to the Council on the outcomes of the trial after 24 months of the installation of the bicycle infrastructure.

Update: 16th September 2024
Whilst we have not had a formal response to the petition (lodged 24 Jun), the proposed changes to Collins Street have now been approved by council 7 votes to 5.
A few issues that we lobbied for that ended up being successful were:
- Leaving Victoria Street around Centrepoint one-way
- More accessible parking options
- Reduce the number of car space lost (49, originally 59).

Collins Street Parking Petiton
Save Small Businesses in Hobart’s CBD
Hobart small businesses and visitors to our city are suffering from current traffic management decisions, and this is only going to get worse.
The City of Hobart plans to remove 59 parking spaces from Collins St in the inner CBD to make way for dual bike lanes. Collins St is not a suburban road, it is a vital part of the inner CBD.
The removal of so much on-street parking does not consider people with mobility issues, our ageing population and inadequate public transport system.
Hobart’s inner CBD has become a much safer place other the years with wider footpaths and less traffic lanes, but this area is still the main business district of a capital city.
This petition is calling on the Hobart City Council to:
- To stop current planned changes to Collins Street
- Locate future northbound and southbound bike lanes in separate streets to minimise disruption
