Whilst it is encouraging to see the Hobart City Council notice the distinct pain endured by small businesses, once again we note that only a favored business type is supported.
Every single supportive action is directed at café’s and restaurants.
The Confederation of Greater Hobart Business Ltd would like to remind the Lord Mayor that the Central Business District is not her personal food court. Retail and services have suffered profoundly and yet again are shoved to the side to allow the very resources they require to be swallowed up by cafes.
It is already difficult with the stripping of parking in the Elizabeth Street area affecting customer access to non-café businesses just to supply free seating to a lucky few business owners. It is made worse with upcoming impact of UTAS swallowing up even more resources to suit themselves.
When exactly is small business going to be appreciated and supported by local government?
